Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the semolina flour, baking powder, 1 cup sugar and melted butter. Add milk gradually and mix with hand to a soft texture.
  3. In a 14-inch diameter low edge pan, cover the bottom of the pan with a thin layer of Tahini, spread evenly the semolina mix and smooth the surface with wet hand.
  4. Using a big knife, cut the semolina mix into 2-inch diamond shaped pieces and add one piece of almond to each diamond shape.
  5. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden brown.
  6. Prepare sugar syrup: In a saucepan add sugar, water, lemon juice and butter. Boil the contents at medium heat then reduce heat and leave to simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  7. When the Basbousa has finished baking, pour half of the syrup while hot over it as evenly as possible and return to oven for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Remove from the oven and add the rest of the syrup. Allow it to cool for about an hour before serving.
