Prep Time 90 Minutes
Serving Size 2 Servings
Ingredients
- 3 Cups course semolina
- 1 Cup Sugar
- 1 Teaspoon baking powder
- 1 Cup milk
- 3 Tablespoon butter
- 1 Tablespoon Tahini
- 1/4 Cup pealed and halved almond
- 4 Cups sugar
- 2 Cup water
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/4 Cup butter
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- In a large bowl, mix together the semolina flour, baking powder, 1 cup sugar and melted butter. Add milk gradually and mix with hand to a soft texture.
- In a 14-inch diameter low edge pan, cover the bottom of the pan with a thin layer of Tahini, spread evenly the semolina mix and smooth the surface with wet hand.
- Using a big knife, cut the semolina mix into 2-inch diamond shaped pieces and add one piece of almond to each diamond shape.
- Bake for 40 to 45 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden brown.
- Prepare sugar syrup: In a saucepan add sugar, water, lemon juice and butter. Boil the contents at medium heat then reduce heat and leave to simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
- When the Basbousa has finished baking, pour half of the syrup while hot over it as evenly as possible and return to oven for 2-3 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and add the rest of the syrup. Allow it to cool for about an hour before serving.
